Hello!
We are just comming back from Koh Bulon. We have been there 3 weeks (from 30.des). The island had no problems with the Tsunami. Everything is ok.
Their biggest problem now is very few tourists.
Regards

Koh Lipe is OK
During the season from Oktober till end of April, Koh Bulon is usualy solid booked out. Its the perfect rest and recreation island for those who are overworked and overdosed, who can speak some phasaa thai and don't need any hype.
If you are from a smal town, and you just have a couple of weeks and you need everything urgently on the spot, means: sex, drugs, rave, beach, paradise, this is definitly NOT your island.
If you reached a certain travel-wisdom ( there is always a better beach somewhere) and you travel on some kind of budget, you like thai food, thai people, and want to clean up your mental harddisc, Bulon is your place.
You leave Pak Bara for Koh Bulon Leh with the boat at 2.pm and will arrive about 90 minutes later. There is no boarding dock on this tiny island so you will be embarked by a longtail"Ten Baht, Ten Baht", and than you have to wade through the cristal clear water up the white sandy beach.
Basic bungalows with shared bath for something like 250 bees offers Bulon Resort. Their restaurant concerning Thai food is quite good.
Pansang Resort, a bottle throw down south, is more garden settled, but for my taste to much petit bourgoise.
There is a small school for Bulon's 24 children which runs a small shop where you can by bia singh, Lao Khao, Sang Som, and other necessasities. The tree teachers, Don, Wit and Wes are very friendly, and helpful in case you want to improve your Thai.
After dark thers not much do do, just listen to the birds and sink some beers, that's it.
Behind the shool-shop is the very rural but excellent Thai-Muslim Asan Restaurant. ( dont worry they serve beer) All over the island they have some problems to cool the drinks propperly, but they try their very best.
The school shop runs also 3 super clean bungalows with basic privat baths for 400 bees.
In the middle of the island you find a small village, with max. 7 very poor huts, and one single neat restaurant. It's a 10 minutes jungle walk and make shure you have your torch with you, in case of returning after dark. Its nicely built, and the owner, a beatifull young lady cooks excellent. I hardly had a better Tom Jam Kung ever.
The beach of Koh Bulon is a dream in white, turkise and blue. Excellent swimming and snorkeling. A small forrest provides shade at any time.
When they are max. 200 Farang on the Island its full. You better make your reservation.
For real adventurous island hopping with a longtail just speak with one of the Chao Leh ( Sea Gipsys) hanging around or with Asan from the restaurant. They take you all the other islands like Koh Tarutao ( whach out for a new Hollywood production!) or Koh Lipe.
Fare to Lipe is about 2000 baht wich you can share with other passengers.
The trip takes arround 4 hours one way.
camping possible.
