You must know that I reside close to Ku-damm, and belong to that kind of specimen, who can still remember the potholes on the transit autobahn through the GDR.
I saw on the first Love Parade in '1989. It was raining and I saw a little crowd of a some spaced-out people dancing in the rain. I was too hungover to realize anything, but it looked funny though. On the '90 Parade, just a view month after the wall came down, it was not raining, and I followed the "demonstration" with my bike for some time.
It was pure exident that I hit the parade, because there was no advertising.the People were shopping on Kudamm, watching more or less amused this crazy people. A youth movement was born, that combined east and west, the first real expession of a new lifestyle. With it's own music, it's own fashion and it's own drugs. Raving money!
In 1992 I had my own car, an original Manila Jeepney, very beautifull, a dream car. THE VIRGIN DESTROYER!
That was extreme fun.
But over the years I lost, like many Berliners, more and more interest in the parade. The people became uglier, more stupid, just a round up of walk ons. A major event and big business, which looks good on TV, but with a poor performance for the average Joe.
But this year I did the only right thing, I watched the Parade on TV. Wonderful.
My babe and me had rreal gooood times . The true spirit. Make love not war. ( But with a little experience you will find out that "LOVE IS WAR")
Let's stay on the subject.
Here you can see the superb fotos I shot from the tv screen. Making love and taking pictures is not so easy, so some of them come out rather blury.
We had a couple of joints, fall asleep, and woke up late. We just went around the corner to Lisa and Mimi from ROOTS, a shacky Nigerian joint, if you know what I mean, where the party was already in full swing... ( update 2003 Mimi is longtime fired - she was beautiful...)
Anyway, people of the world, your money is always welcome.
The Love Parade now is a real part of the City's Economy. An estimated 125.000.000 $ flow into the pockets of retailers, hotels and clubs.
The City government will earn about 20.000.000$ allone, and about another 25.000.000 will be spent on illicit drugs, especialy E, imported from Holland. all on one weekend!
The truth is, that Techno sounds are on decline . The cool berlin clubs play more cuban, latin, african beats, all kinds of cross-overs, but when it's time for Love Parade, for 3 days you here nothing but techno and than is peace for 362 days again.
So, people of the world come in masses to Berlin. Don't forget your creditcards. You are welcome!
