Bars and Restaurants in Charlottenburg (Savignyplatz)
|
Hanging out in Charlottenburg basicly means to hang somewhere between Gedächtniskirche ( Memorial Church). Adenauer, Savigny and Stuttgarter Platz ( Stutti).
After the fall of the wall, the western parts fall back behind the hyped, trendy quarties of the "EAST"
But after a while people found out that the beer in the east also contains water and a kind of "party roll-back" started.
The area between Ku-damm ( Kurfürstendamm or Q-Damm), Savignyplatz around Kantstrasse, Carmerstrasse, Knesebeckstrasse, and Grolmanstrasse, offers ALL a decent reveller needs, Stuttgarter Platz shows some shacky joints, which I didn't dare to enter within 25 years. But there are some interesting wateringholes to detect, specially on the side between Windscheid and Leonhardtstrasse.
The aerea around Savignyplatz, highlights the infamous Gainsbourg (locals call it Gänseburg ="Goose Castel"), the well established "Florian" as well as the legendary Paris Bar, which is despite all rumors going strong. (watch out for "Vienna Bar").
A new all day&night destination is the BREL on Savigny Platz 1, (open W-LAN) while the "Terzo Mondo", the first Greek tavern I ever entered in 1974, tries to can the spirit of '68, but exhausted some charm on countless lost third world wars. (Guido is doing Beatnik Parties over there)
Opposite the "Diener", the wateringhole for generations of theater actors and their critics, (MUST SEE!),And you also find "Rocky's Inn" (nope: it's closed , and Kratze (Rocky) probably in jail again for some stupid shit), the dive of Berlins last boxing champions, the Graciano-Brothers.
